Are Spambots the New Version of TeleMarketers?

spambotI know spambots aren’t really people.  They aren’t telemarketers, but they can’t just be robots that try to put this stuff on blog pages, right?? They’re like little amoebas!

I’m still fairly new at this blogging thing, but I am amazed by how much spam people get on the backend of sites.  It doesn’t get through, and that’s good and it can’t take anyone’s information and that’s even better!  I’ve asked around and it seems to happen to everyone who has a blog. Harmless, but annoying.

Here’s a game:  Everything you never wanted to know about spam, and were afraid to ask:

There’s all kinds:  There are the ones that  just put in a link hoping you’ll approve it and it will go live to your site, and others that try to put in some comments about how nicely you write or what a good point you’ve made (in whatever you happen to have written — even in a coming soon page) before they include a link.  There are also the ones in a completely other language as well as broken English, asking about your server and perhaps who designed the site. Lately though, there have also been negative comments.  Mean comments.  WHY?  Who knows.  I’ve asked around — a lot of experts and all of them say the same thing:  “They are just spam bots.  Don’t read them…just delete and move on.”  This makes sense.  And yet, I can’t seem to stop thinking about this.

WHO is behind the spam??  It reminds me of telemarketing.  Yes, in my college days I did take a job telemarketing.  It was awful.  I got a lot of No’s!  But in retrospect, I suppose it prepared me for fundraising! LOL  I built up a resistance to the word and haven’t really been able to take it for an answer since!!

I guess the negative comments are just another way to try to get me (the owner of the blog) to engage.  Maybe the bot is trying to outsmart me.  Maybe it thinks if I get angry and respond, they will find a way in.  But what it doesn’t know is that keeping a positive attitude is the best defense in everything!  So bring on your Louis Vuitton purses, your fashion jewelry, some team jersey or the best new bed on the market and I will not only delete you, I will have you permanently booted and send you straight to my spam folder! That’s getting it done with positivity!
